I don't know what game you're talking about but in the internet spaceship game Eve Online this statement is patently false.

You want to know why Visual Studio became the IDE it is today? Microsoft had to use it on a day to day basis when they restructured their engineering department. It went from being a steaming pile to what it is today (half way good) in very short order. Play your own game if you're gonna develop for it, so you know what is actually going on.
not to nitpick but I find it pretty questionable that any alliance... well at least in the top 5-10 could function properly and survive using only the tools that CCP provides and can monitor.
